In 2017 Giuseppe won 2nd Prize at the Montréal International Competition along with five other awards including the People’s Choice.
Born in Sicily, Giuseppe completed his studies in 2018 at the Barenboim-Said Academy in Berlin with Nelson Goerner. In the same year he won a Tabor Foundation Award at the Verbier Festival Academy, received a prestigious Klavier Ruhr Festival scholarship, and was selected by Young Classical Artists Trust (YCAT).
Solo highlights include appearances with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic (conducted by Vasily Petrenko), the Royal Philharmonic, Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal (conducted by Claus Peter Flor) and the Orchestra del Teatro la Fenice. In 2017 he premiered a concerto by Benjamin Attahir with the Pierre Boulez Ensemble conducted by Daniel Barenboim in the opening concert of the Boulez Saal.
“Dès qu’il a commencé à jouer, j’ai été conquise. J’ai suivi de très près le Concours musical international de Montréal, en 2017, et l’Italien Giuseppe Guarrera était dans mes favoris depuis le début. Je ne m’étais pas trompée. Il a raflé la deuxième place et plusieurs autres prix, dont celui du public. C’était 100% mérité.”
Giuseppe has performed at major venues including the Auditorio Sony in Madrid, Luis Vuitton Foundation in Paris, Giuseppe Verdi Theatre in Trieste and Maison Symphonique de Montréal.
Future engagements include recitals at Wigmore Hall, Klavier Ruhr Festival and the Boulez Saal, and performances of concertos by Saint-Saëns and Beethoven in the UK, Italy and Germany.
Prior to joining the Barenboim-Said Academy, Giuseppe studied in Italy with Siavush Gadjiev and Giuseppe Cultrera, and in Berlin with Eldar Neblosin at the Hochschule für Musik ‘Hanns Eisler’ graduating with a Masters in 2016.
“While the audience at Bourgie Hall was going wild after Guarrera’s performance of Liszt’s Rhapsonie espagnole, which concluded his semifinal recital, we were still trying to recover from the beauty of Beethoven’s Op. 10, No. 3, which opened it . Guarrera resisted the temptation to “place his own stamp” on the work, instead using a crisp touch and careful attention to detail to simply reveal the beauty in Beethoven’s score. The slow movement was especially powerful.”
Since October 2017 Giuseppe Guarrera is teaching piano as assistant of Prof.Goerner at the Barenboim-Said Akademie.
