“Dès qu’il a commencé à jouer, j’ai été conquise. J’ai suivi de très près le Concours musical international de Montréal, en 2017, et l’Italien Giuseppe Guarrera était dans mes favoris depuis le début. Je ne m’étais pas trompée. Il a raflé la deuxième place et plusieurs autres prix, dont celui du public. C’était 100% mérité.”
In September 2017, Mr. Guarrera was invited as soloist to premiere a new piano concerto by B.Attahir with the Pierre Boulez Ensemble and Maestro Daniel Barenboim, in occasion of the opening concert at the Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin.
As a soloist, he performed in numerous venues namely the Auditorio Sony in Madrid, Fenice Theater in Venice, Bob Boas Foundation in London, Giuseppe Verdi Theater in Trieste, Studio Flagey in Brussels, University Hall in Leeds, Northern College of Music In Manchester, Bologna Festival in Italy, Palazzo Ricci in Montepulciano, Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin, Verbier Festival (Vendome prize) and Maison symphonique de Montréal, with major orchestras including Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, London Royal Philarmonic, Liverpool Philarmonic, Orchestra del Teatro la Fenice and conductors such as V.Petrenko, D.Kjtaenko and D.Barenboim.
“While the audience at Bourgie Hall was going wild after Guarrera’s performance of Liszt’s Rhapsonie espagnole, which concluded his semifinal recital, we were still trying to recover from the beauty of Beethoven’s Op. 10, No. 3, which opened it . Guarrera resisted the temptation to “place his own stamp” on the work, instead using a crisp touch and careful attention to detail to simply reveal the beauty in Beethoven’s score. The slow movement was especially powerful.”
Since October 2017 Giuseppe Guarrera is teaching piano as assistant of Prof.Goerner at the Barenboim-Said Akademie.
